UGM GROWTH Union for the Gospel Ministries was founded in 1981 by Nathaniel Kigwila while on a prayer and fasting pilgrimage on a Tanzanian mountaintop. God gave Nathaniel a vision for an organization to promote unity and cooperation among Christian leaders to strengthen Tanzania's ability to reach lost souls. Late in 1983 God began to open many doors for UGM. We were invited to preach in schools, hospitals, army and National Service camps -- even prisons and remote villages which had never heard the gospel. During this period, UGM began to organize churches all over Tanzania in coordinated prayer efforts. UGM then brought these local churches into crusades, seminarsand witnessing campaigns. This helped them disciple the many new converts, as well as strengthen the resources of the local church bodies. This rapid expansion of UGM, due to God's blessing and direction, has made UGM one of the uniting Christian ministries in Tanzania with a strategic plan to reach the entire country for Jesus Christ. It has grown to 200 church affiliates as well as many ministries to carry forth the gospel. Today, Tanzania is the fourth poorest nation in the world, With over 45 million souls, and 35% of the country still unevangelized, Tanzania is a tremendous open door for the Kingdom of God.
